"But Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children." Matthew 19:14
The Huffington Post reported on Wednesday that a photo of a 2-year-old Nigerian boy, Imoh Umoren, went viral following his loss of a race for the absolute sweetest reason ever. After posting the picture on Twitter, the boy's father explained just what happened, "My son finished 4th in the race because instead of running across the finish line he ran to hug me... he's a bit of a hugger, and maybe to him, that is a natural ending to a race: run into Daddy's arms. I was telling him to stop but he couldn't figure out why he had to. He ran towards me giggling."
And when it comes to youthful spontaneity and unbridled joy, it's no coincidence that the Bible tells us more than once that you and I are to be like little children. That doesn't mean that we are to act childish or immature though, but to see Jesus the way a child would, as this little boy did his father. And to love Him with an all-out, no holds barred abandonment-looking to Him to fulfill all our needs and to teach us all the things we need to know. In fact, Jesus said, "For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children."
You see, Imoh loved his father so much that he would stop at nothing to be with him. And this same child-like attitude and behavior is the one God is calling us to watch and imitate. Because, in the words of Paula Coelho, "A child can teach an adult three things: to be happy for no reason, to always be busy with something and to know how to demand with all his might that which he desires." May that desire always be Jesus.
Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us so much that you would crave an intimate relationship with us. May we love, serve and approach you with a child-like faith always longing to run into your arms. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy running!!!
