"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." 1 John 1:7
It's kind of an unwritten rule that a person is to walk on the right side of the road. It's something most of us were taught even before the first grade. An explanation from Travel Etiquette explains it this way: When everyone walks on the right side, there is no blockage, everyone can keep moving and you don’t annoy people by walking in their way. I guess runners are just rule breakers then as we know the safest spot to be is on the left opposite traffic, opposite the majority and against the grain so to speak. If you think about it we, as Christians, should be walking that way too-in the opposite flow of the majority and the world.
1 John 15:18-20 tells us what to expect as Christians by walking this way though, "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you... If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also...". As Jesus clearly said, one thing is certain-when we choose to walk with Him, we will cause blockages, we will get in people's way and we will most definitely annoy them. But the question is, are you willing then to walk in the light despite all that?
It would certainly be easier to follow the flow and walk in the ways of the world wouldn't it? But, as followers of Jesus, we are set apart and called to "walk in the light, as he is in the light." that we might influence others to do the same. I pray that you let nothing stop you from going against the grain.
Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that tells us what to expect as believers and followers of you. May we be willing to walk against the world no matter the ridicule or hate we might face. Help us to be strong and walk tall that we might bring others to you. Give us courage to never stray from the path you are leading us. It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!!!
