"What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless." James 2:14-17
The phrase, "See a need, fill a need" was popularized in the 2005 animated film, Robots. In the movie, Rodney aspires to become an inventor and travels to Robot City to fulfill his dream. His only wish was to invent things that would help people. He was constantly looking for things to create that would do that, all the while doing it with a great attitude. At Saturday's race I was in complete awe of Traci, a volunteer that was continually looking for ways to help regardless what the task was... she just wanted to help. And it was obvious that she really enjoyed doing it. At one point, I made the remark, "You are so willing to help before even being asked. Thank you so much." She simply replied, "See a need, fill a need I say. I saw that on Robots" and then hurried along to another project that needed to be done.
Wouldn't it be great if we all had that attitude? Unfortunately most us us never even "see a need". We are too focused on ourselves and our own needs to care about someone else's. But Christ is very clear that it is our responsibility. Philippians 2:4 says, "Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." When we pursue looking to the interests of others, we are looking to "see a need". What's the good in seeing it though if we don't act on it? "So you see faith by itself isn't enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless." We can't simply sit back and hope someone's needs are met. As Christians, we are to be the ones to take action, we are the ones to "fill a need."
Heavenly Father, thank You for the blessings You have given us. May we always remember that You are the Provider of all our needs and will give us more than we need to share with others. I pray that we will always look for ways to help others everyday and everywhere we go. In all we do, may we be a blessing to someone and let You shine through us. In your precious name we pray Jesus, Amen.
Happy Running!!!
