Ears aren't just for sunglasses
"He who has hears, let them hear." Matthew 11:15
While getting ready to run yesterday morning, I was thinking about how great a creation ears were as I wrapped my headphone earpieces around them and put them in place. And then again when I tucked my sunglasses behind my ears, I thought how creative and loving God was to give us these neat body parts. As handy as ears are for securing things to your head, that's not the most important reason He placed them on the sides of our head.
There are four times in the Book of Matthew that Jesus makes the statement, "He who has ears, let him hear." Why? What's His purpose? Have you ever seen someone who is bored to death with what is being said? Their gaze wanders and they may even doze off. They may hear what is said but their mind doesn't register the words. He asked the question so many times because He is concerned about how we listen and the condition of our hearts when we hear the Word. In Matthew 13, Jesus told the parable of the sower sowing seed and how they treated God's word. Some hear it and are glad for it but dismiss it when trials overcome them. In other words, it went "in one ear and out the other."
We all have ears. We need to use them to listen intently to what God says in His word and then let that Word take root in our heart. As the creator of all things-even you and me, doesn't He deserve our full attention? Be open to what God is telling you today and remember that your ears were made for more than sunglasses.
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us ears to hear Your word. May our hearts be open to receiving it and sensitive to hear the Holy Spirit speaking. May he who has ears, hear you Lord. In your precious name we pray, Amen.
Happy Running!!!
