"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Several times a month I like to drive to a neighboring town to run to break up the monotony of my routine. And as I was driving there early yesterday morning, my eyes were drawn to a large LED sign that featured a smiling cartoon sun wearing sunglasses that read, "Good Morning. Make it a Great Day." I couldn't help but smile thinking that I was going to do that very thing because it was my choice. You know, whether you realize it or not, we all have the power to make the day great or not-so-great just by our attitudes. And believe it or not, having a great day has nothing to do with what happens around us but what happens within us.
You see, happiness is a choice that often goes against our natural inclinations, especially when things aren't going smoothly in our lives. But the Bible tell us to "rejoice always, pray continually" and to "give thanks in all circumstances". It's when we begin doing this, especially when we don't feel like it, that our natural tendencies to let external things affect our mood change and we become so intent on doing "God's will" that our focus is turned from what's happening around us to the One who is within us. And you know what? When we do this so often that it becomes a habit, every day is a great day.
So I hope that you will choose to make today great no matter what lies ahead-remembering that, as children of the King, we always have something to rejoice and give thanks for. After all, we have assurance that we will one day witness the greatest day of all. Now doesn't that make you happy?
Heavenly Father, thank you for reminder that we can and should rejoice in all circumstances knowing that this is your will for us. May we stay focused on you through prayer and not on our problems as we thank you for the many many good things you have done for us. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.
Happy Running!!!
