So worth it

"Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the Kingdom of God, will be repaid many times over in this life, and will have eternal life in the world to come.” Luke 18:29, 30

When it comes to running day after day, have you ever asked yourself, "Is it really worth it?" Well according to competitor.com, the answer is definitely yes. Among the many benefits of continuing to lace up, other than the obvious one of improving fitness, are better overall mental health, stronger lungs and immune system, lower blood pressure, weight control, stress relief and increased confidence. Even though it will be hard at times, it sounds like it will indeed be worth the effort to keep pounding the pavement doesn't it?

But let's get real here. Have you ever asked yourself this question, "Is it really worth it to follow Christ?" When you look around and see people working and gaining worldly things, seeming to be very happy, at the expense of devoting their time to worship? Or reveling in and enjoying all the pleasures of the world rather than committing themselves to serving the Lord and doing his work? Well according to the Bible the answer is unquestionably yes. You see, the things of this world are temporary and will pass away-not even one possession any one of us has worked for will follow us into the next world. But to his followers, Jesus gives the promise that everyone who has given up the things of this world, "for the sake of the Kingdom of God, will be repaid many times over in this life and will have eternal life in the world to come."

And while there's no denying the fact that following Christ will be hard and will come at a cost, Jesus tells us repeatedly that it will indeed be worth the effort. I believe that today, do you?

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that promises us that serving you has eternal benefits far greater than any temporary ones this world could offer. When we doubt or question why it is we serve, help us to remember the sacrifice you made on the cross to bring us eternal life, ensuring that it will be worth it. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
