Purposeful life

"Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green." Psalm 92:14

Hidekichi Miyazaki, nicknamed the "Golden Bolt" because of his imitation of runner Usain Bolt's victory stance, set a new Guiness World Record for the 100 meter dash last Wednesday. The 105 year old man from Japan ran it in 42.22 seconds. If that's not amazing enough, consider that Mr. Miyazaki didn't even start running until after he turned 90 and broke that same record when he was 103 and 104. Certainly goes to show that a person can still do great things at any age.

Throughout the bible, there are countless stories of saints whose last days were some of their best days.  Moses and Aaron were both in their 80's when they led the Israelites out of Egypt. Daniel served God from the days of his youth for over 70 years and Elizabeth was "well advanced in years" when she gave birth to John the Baptist. Scripture is filled with the stories of people chosen to do great things later in life who, "even in old age" still produced fruit and remained "vital and green."

Most people retire at the age of 65. But retiring from God's work should never be an option. Years of following him, trusting him and reading His word has prepared you for what God has planned next. So whether you're 29 or 99, if you have a pulse, God has a purpose for you. Will you let him use you?

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us. Thank you for preparing us for service and for choosing us to be a light in this dark world. No matter how old or what disabilities we may have, show us how we can do great things for your glory. Show us your purpose for our lives Lord. It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!

Through it all - Selah
