What a fabulous day for a race. Valentines Day is a day to express your love... for running I would say. The 25k race runs from Sarcoxie to Carthage or vice versa depending on which way the wind is blowing. The goal is to pick the route that will have the wind at your back. Today's race started in Carthage and ended in Sarcoxie. With mild temps and great friends to share the day, we were off and running at 9 a.m. to complete the 15.6 mile race.
The course led us through the country with some rolling hills and beautiful views of God's creation. I love that it was a family friendly route where loved ones and friends could follow their runners via car cheering them on and passing them any supplies they might need. For Luke Morrison, it was to be a day full of anticipation. This was to be his first race and. although I had given him some race pointers, he would have much to discover about distance running and himself as he ventured to complete his first road race. One thing he seemed to know was speed! He finished in 2:01 to place 2nd in his age group with a smile on his face and a spirit already planning his next one. Loved seeing the grin on his mother's face too!
Pastor John and I finished with respectable times and agreed that it was a blessed day indeed. God willing, we will run this race again next year. Exceptional job Joplin Road Runners. Thanks for a great race! |
