Despite the conditions-Run for the Ranch 2017

"Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him." James 1:12

Hailed as the last chance to run 26.2 or 13.1 miles before the end of the year, the Run for the Ranch Marathon and Half took place on Saturday, December 30th. And while the date is great for those people who have procrastinated on reaching their goal and want to finish the year in style, running a race this late in the season is not without it's added difficulties. You see, more times than not, this winter race offers less than ideal weather conditions. And with a feel-like temperature of six degrees and sleeting snow, this weekend was no different. But by God's grace, everyone in our group had a lot of fun, persevered until the end and went home with shiny new medals for doing so.

You know, the race of life (and you can be sure it's a race) is not much different. God never said it would be though, did He? In fact, we are told to expect trials in this world-but thankfully, we are also given this promise, "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life.." What does that mean exactly? Quite simply it means that there is a priceless reward waiting for each person who persistently and steadfastly follows and trusts Christ, even in the face of difficulties, suffering and hardship and especially when things seem impossible or hopeless.

So if you haven't trusted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the good news is that it's not too late! Today can be the first day of a new year and a new life. And while choosing to follow Christ won't ensure you a life free from trouble, it will ensure you that it will be worth it. Because to all "who love him" there awaits something far greater than a shiny new medal at the finish line. And that my friend is a promise.

Heavenly Father, thank you for being the God of second chances and for loving us even when we didn't love you. I pray Lord that if there's anyone who has put off making the decision to follow you that they wouldn't waste another moment and would pray right now... Lord, I am a sinner. I confess that I need you. I believe that you are God's son and that you died and rose again on the third day to give me new life. I ask that you come into my heart and give me the strength to follow you today and every day hereafter. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Cut the stress

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6

In a recent study published in the Journal of Sports Sciences, it was found that runners' gastrointestinal problems were significantly related to a runners' stress and anxiety levels. Put another way, even when other known causes of GI issues were accounted for, such as caffeine and workout intensity, runners who reported more stress and anxiety in daily life were more likely to have flatulence, stomach distress, mid-run pit stops, and so on while running. As you might have guessed, the only way to relieve and prevent this GI upset is to find ways to reduce our overall stress. And while they suggested doing things like yoga, meditation or cognitive behavioral therapy to relieve anxiety, I have a much better suggestion and one that's proven to work.... prayer and petition.

You know, when Paul wrote the words, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God", he was in a Roman prison facing an uncertain future. And yet, he wasn't at all worried because Paul knew that God was faithful to work all things out-and that, by making his desires (by prayer and petition) known to God, he could trade his worries for peace. And since you and I can trust our unknown futures to a known God too, there's no reason for us to be anxious, apprehensive or fearful about anything either. In fact, you and I can be thankful at all times knowing that God is aware of everything we need and everything going on in our lives.

So when the cares of the world threaten to overwhelm you with worry and unease, won't you resist the urge to look down in despair? And instead look up to the One who knows your needs before you even present them and desires nothing more than for you to have the peace that only He can give?

Heavenly Father, thank You loving us so much that You would offer to give us peace no matter what we are facing. Help us to be like Paul Lord, trusting You in every situation and giving thanks at all times. Help us to know that You are working all things for our good and so there's never any reason to be anxious. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Everything is from Him

"But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!" 1 Chronicles 29:14 NLT

Image result for runner giving god glory pic

Women's Running Magazine recently published an article titled, "The Importance Of Being A Humble Runner." But as most of us already know and the writer pointed out, the greater our success in running (surpassing goals, winning awards, gaining PR's, etc.), the greater our chances of becoming prideful. And pride, or the inordinate opinion of one’s own merit, can easily inflate our egos leading us to overestimate our abilities and train to the point of injury-which is why it is so important to remain meek and aware of our limitations. The best way to stay humble, they say, is to be honest with ourselves and to remember that there's always room for improvement.

And while those are good tips to keep us from becoming arrogant and haughty, the best way to stay humble is by always remembering that you and I have no talent that God didn’t give us and can accomplish nothing that God doesn’t allow. You see, everything we have and everything we are comes from the Lord. Sure, we can get better by training but, ultimately, we will still only be as fast or able to run as far as God designed us to. David certainly understood that when he wrote, "who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you..."

So when the urge strikes to pat yourself on the back or publicly sing your own praises, won't you give the glory to the Creator instead? Won't you acknowledge that all of your successes are the direct result of the Lord's favor in your life? Because that my friend, is truly the only way to stay humble.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many good things you have given each of us. Thank you for our time, our talents and the opportunities you give us that allow us to display the power of your presence in our lives. Help us to achieve great things in your name Father that others would take notice and see you but help us to stay humble and remember that all glory belongs to You. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!

A lifetime goal

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

Image result for finish line pics
Kevin Follet of Fort Collins, Colo., who has run in all 50 states and 21 foreign countries, reached his lifetime goal of running his 100,000th mile Saturday. Joined by his family and about two dozen friends, he ran this milestone mile along the Poudre River Trail in Laporte before breaking the finish line tape his two daughters held up to mark the momentous occasion. And in the season when many people are looking to set goals and make resolutions for the new year, what will yours' be? Something as big as Kevin's? Or perhaps something a bit smaller?

The truth is, setting goals of any size most definitely has its' benefits but, as followers of Christ, there's one lifetime goal we should all share... serving as Paul served. You see, when Paul was nearing the end of his life, he confidently wrote these words, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." And he could declare this because he knew that he had put his every effort into the work of proclaiming the gospel of salvation. He had completed the course God set before him and had left absolutely nothing undone. His lifetime goal to serve the Savior with all he had was complete and he was ready to cross the finish line and enter heaven.

So as we approach New Year’s Day, the day many people designate as the best time of the year to make a fresh start, what will you make your number one goal? I do hope it will be to follow the example of Paul my friend, because as Pastor Steven Cole writes, "A life devoted to God is a life well spent. A life devoted to anything else, no matter how noble, is a life ultimately wasted."

Heavenly Father, thank you for the Bible that clearly tells us how a Christian should live and the benefits it will bring both now and in eternity. May our hearts' desire, above all else, be to serve you with all we have for as long as you will grant us our next breath. Help us to be bold witnesses for the gospel and to carry your love to others that they might come to know you because of something we did. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Makes my heart wanna sing

"I will sing to the LORD as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath!" Psalm 104:33

Image result for people singing pic
Purposely getting up earlier than the rest of the family yesterday morning, I settled in for some much needed Bible study and time alone with the Lord. I knew the day would soon get busy and I wanted nothing more than to begin it by thanking Him for the miracle of the virgin birth. Moments later though, I was interrupted with a soft knock on the door and my daughter's sweet voice saying, "It's time to open presents Mommy. It's Christmas." Oh boy, I thought, I guess I didn't get up early enough. And as the gifts were being unwrapped and the gratitude for my many blessings grew, I felt ready to explode with joy. I literally couldn't dress and get out the door fast enough after finishing to go for a run. And as I quickly settled into an easy pace, finally alone with the Father, I began to thank Him over and over and over again before singing His praises out loud. Oh how good that felt!

You know, King David was a man known for unabashedly praising his Savior too. He praised Him with melodies, words and even dancing. He praised the Lord for his goodness when life was easy and he praised him for his faithfulness when times got hard. In fact, David was so adamant that he would never stop giving thanks to the Lord that he wrote, "I will sing to the Lord as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath!" In other words, David, in gratefulness to who God is and all He does, was compelled to praise Him no matter the circumstance.

And while I'm sure many people thanked the Lord yesterday for the gifts under the tree and the food on the table, how many of them will continue doing it the rest of the year? Christmas is indeed a special day filled with blessings but, if you look around and pay attention, every day is. So won't you decide to begin each morning giving praise to the Father? I promise it will make your day so much brighter.

Heavenly Father, thank you sending your son Jesus to offer us the greatest gift we could ever receive. Salvation can't be found in a store, in a box or under a tree but is given freely to all those who believe in You. Help us to remember that it's also a gift no one can ever take away and an assurance that we will one day spend eternity in Heaven. In light of that, help us to see your goodness in everything around us and to be compelled to sing your praises. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Did she know

"and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them." Luke 2:7

Image result for mary and baby jesus pic

Nearly 20 years ago, my firstborn, a son, came into this world. I don't recall ever having felt a love that strong for anyone or anything before the day they placed him in my arms. Life changed the moment I held him... and so it must have been for Mary more than 2.000 years ago when "she gave birth to her firstborn, a son." Only ten months earlier, she was a young virgin engaged to be married - probably busying herself with wedding plans and dreams of the future. And then Gabriel came to visit, "The angel told her, “Don’t be afraid, Mary. You have found favor with God. You will become pregnant, give birth to a son, and name him Jesus. He will be a great man and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. Your son will be king of Jacob’s people forever, and his kingdom will never end.” Luke 1:26-38

Can you imagine all the plans she had for Him? The dreams of who he would be, what he would be like, the color of his eyes? Yes... she knew he was special and that he would be the "Son of the Most High" but for now he was her son, her precious baby. With a mother's love, she would allow herself to think only pleasant thoughts. Luke 2:19 tells us that, "Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart." Could she have possibly known how her son, the Son of God, the beautiful baby that rested in her arms that first Christmas morning, would one day die a sinners death on a cross to save you and me from our sins?

This Christmas, won’t you take the time to treasure up all these things and ponder them in your heart as well? Jesus left his throne to be born in a stable and placed in a wooden manger. He would later be placed on a wooden cross to fulfill the purpose for which He was born. Mary, did you know?

Heavenly Father, thank you for this glorious Christmas day. Thank you for the gift of salvation and eternal life provided through the baby Jesus born in a stable over 2,000 years ago. There could be no greater love or greater King that would leave his throne to endure the suffering and hardship required to be the ultimate sacrifice. May we ponder these things in our heart today and the whole year through as we celebrate the greatest birth day of all time. Merry Christmas and may God bless each of you. It's in your most precious name we pray these things King Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!

Its about the Cross

"And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." Philippians 2:8

Beginning with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Owen Delaney of London set out to create things that he felt represented Christmas using Strava, a social network that allows runners to track and share the routes of their workouts. Each run was carefully planned and drawn out beforehand by Delaney to take him down paths and around streets that would eventually form the objects he was trying to fabricate-images that, when seen from above, look like the things he and others associate with Christmas like Santa Claus, a snowflake and an open sleigh. And while I applaud his efforts, I think Owen forgot the most important “thing.” He forgot about the cross. And you know what? It’s all about the cross.

You see the Bible tells us that our Savior left his home in Heaven to become flesh, born of a virgin, that He might one day save us from our sins. And from the Christmas cradle to the cross, this was the Son's ambition and His greatest intention. In the words sung by Go Fish, "The beginning of the story is wonderful and great but it's the ending that can save you and that's why we celebrate. It's about the cross. It's about my sin. It's about how Jesus came to be born once so that we could be born again. It's about God's Son nailed to a tree. It's about every drop of blood that flowed from Him when it should have been me."

So you see Christmas is most certainly all about the cross and what it represents. But it’s the one thing many people don’t realize reveals the true and absolute meaning of why Jesus was born on that blessed Christmas morning. So won’t you share that with others today so they, too, can know the true reason we celebrate this most wonderful time of the year?

Heavenly Father, thank you for the greatest gift ever given and a season to celebrate. Thank you for your son, Jesus, who came to us in human form that he might be the Savior of the world. May we praise Him every day of the year for his great love for us and celebrate his birth above all else this Christmas. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Good advice?

"But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David’s brother. And Jonadab was a very crafty man." 2 Samuel 13:3

Last December Runner's World Magazine listed the worst advice runners had ever received about running a marathon. Among the advice given was: the body glide probably won't make it through the airport so just leave it at home, run the first mile as fast as possible to get ahead of the crowd and make sure to wear brand new shoes. Imagine the consequences of following any one of those unwise words of wisdom. It's no wonder then that the article came with this warning, "Follow any of the advice and you won't be surprised what happens next..."

And when it comes to advice, the Bible gives us many examples of what can happen "next" when bad advice is given and heeded. Take Amnon for example-he was in love with his half sister Tamar and was unsure of what to do about it. Following the advice he sought from his friend, Jonadab who "was a very crafty man", Amnon lied and schemed to get his sister alone and, after doing so, raped her and was later murdered by her full-brother Absalom for the deed. What a mess! To think that all that could possibly have been avoided had Amnon gotten some good and honest Christian advice.

So when it comes to following counsel of any kind, whether it be from family, friends or others, our utmost responsibility is to be sure it is good and godly by asking ourselves whether the counsel being offered aligns with God's standards (also known as the Truth). And if it doesn't? Then take my advice friend and move on.

Heavenly Father, thank you for those people you have put in our lives that can help us to navigate those situations we are unsure of. Help us to follow only good advice and to recognize it by knowing what your Word says and comparing all words of counsel to the Truth. It's in your precious name we pray, Jesus. Amen.

His laws protect

" God’s laws are perfect. They protect us, make us wise, and give us joy and light." Psalm 19:7,8

Related image
Because of a tragic accident that took the life of 43-year-old runner Rosemary Bilquist on November 22, her husband of 21 years, Jamie Billquist, will spend this Christmas without the woman he so dearly loved. Sadly, Rosemary, who was known for her outsized generosity and acts of kindness, was killed while out walking her dogs around 5:20 that evening when a hunter mistook her for a deer and shot her in the hip. And while accidents certainly do happen, this one was totally avoidable. You see, it's illegal to hunt after sunset in the state of New York. And had the hunter heeded the law put in place for peoples' protection, he would have clearly seen that his target was not a doe.

You know when it comes to our protection, the laws that you and I may think keep us from having fun are actually the very ones that God has put in place for our preservation. You see, shame, regret, divorce, abuse, health problems, and preventable diseases are all some of the results of living outside of God's ordered design. His "perfect" laws and precepts, though, actually serve to "make us wise", or guide and point us in the right direction to avoid unnecessary pain and trauma, and to give us the "joy and light" that right living brings.

Greg Simas says it this way, "When we follow the laws and commands in God’s Word we come into alignment with how the Creator has designed us to live." And when we are in alignment with the Father, we can see that His laws aren't shackles for our feet but lights for our path.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that clearly tells us that living by your moral code actually gives us the freedom to really live with joy and avoid the painful consequences that sin always brings. Help us to gain a hunger for your Word that we might know it and use it as a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our paths. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Welcome home

"So he got up and went to his father. "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." Luke 15:20

Image result for father hugging son pic

Four years ago, Rachelle Johnson, a 32-year-old runner from Kentucky, found herself completely off track. She was overweight, out of shape and smoking more than a pack of cigarettes every day. After many struggles though, Rachelle was happy to announce recently that she has completed six half marathons and one full marathon since her journey to become healthier began. And for those still struggling to overcome bad habits, she offered this advice, "Never beat yourself up. There is always tomorrow to get back on track. It’s okay to take breaks, jump back on when you’re ready again. You’re never too far gone to start or start again. Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going."

And you know what? She’s right. Whether you have gotten off track spiritually or physically, it's never too late and you're never too far gone to start over.  The parable of the lost son clearly illustrates that. The story goes that a man had two sons. The younger one not only asked for his inheritance early but took it and squandered it on wild living only to be left homeless and starving. Although he felt it was too late to reconcile with this father, he had nowhere else to go so "got up and went to his father" who "ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." In other words, the father welcomed his son back with open arms, not caring how much time had passed or what the boy had done.

And you know what? Our Heavenly Father is waiting patiently to do the same with all his children that have gone astray. And that includes you my friend. No matter how long you have been away or how far you have gotten off track, God wants to welcome you home today. Will you let him?

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us so much that you would be willing and ready to welcome us home no matter how far we have wandered. Help us to realize how lost and in need of a Savior that we are that we might run back to you, confess our sins, and get back on track. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Take the time

"And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”" Luke 7:13 ESV

Image result for show compassion pic
As I finished up my morning run at the park yesterday and hopped into my van, I reminded myself that I was on a tight schedule and needed to get in and out of Wal-Mart quickly. It seems the majority of the shoppers at the store also had the same idea as I watched them dart up and down the aisles. Which is why I paused to look twice at an older gentleman who appeared to be taking his time, carefully surveying the chips as if trying to prolong his grocery shopping. As curiosity and a prompting from the Spirit caused me to hesitate further, I realized he was a member of my church and a man whose wife had been in a nursing home for many months. And as a wave of compassion came over me, I approached him to see how he was doing only to learn that his lovely bride of 50 years was now on hospice and simply biding her time until the Lord called her home. And, for him, this shopping trip was a much needed getaway from that reality... if only for a while.

Oh my, I thought, how many times do I, and others, speed through life oblivious to other peoples' hurts? And why aren’t we imitating Jesus? I mean, He was most definitely a busy man trying to accomplish much in a short amount of time and, yet, always took the time to show love. As a matter of fact, the Bible tells us that when Jesus approached the town gate of a town called Nain, He saw a weeping widow who was on her way to bury her only son, "And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her..." So much compassion, in fact, that He stopped what He was doing to speak the words that raised her son from the dead. He loved the woman that much.

And you know, while Christmas is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, for many people it is not. Knowing that, may you and I take the time to show true concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. May we slow down a little, look around a lot, and be sensitive to the Spirits' prompting that we might help to make this season a little brighter for someone in need of a compassionate word or touch. May we love others that much.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminder that, for many, Christmas is a reminder of loved ones lost or other tragedies. Help us to be sensitive to others feelings this time of year that we might show them the love of Christ and, in some small way, ease their suffering and lead them to You. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

The power of encouragement

"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Image result for encouraging runners pic

In December of 2014, Gary Snow, 43, weighed over 300 pounds and was told by his doctor that he needed to make a lifestyle change. Heeding his doctor's advice, Gary modified his diet and began using an elliptical to shed some weight. Six months later and 45 pounds lighter, he went to see his brother, Chris, run (and win) a local 5k race. At Chris' prodding, Gary joined his brother at a 5k the following month and hasn't stopped running since, most recently completing his first half marathon. He says he was inspired to keep going because of all the encouraging people he met along the way. "All of these wonderful athletes have one thing in common: A love of the sport and a helpful spirit for fellow runners...I’m so happy to be numbered among the millions who call themselves a runner."

And while the reasons people begin running are as unique and varied as their form and pace, the reason most runners stick with it is because of the motivation and support they receive from their fellow athletes. Those people who encourage them to get out when they don't feel like it, congratulate them on their accomplishments and push them to reach new goals. And this is the same helpful spirit that you and I should be showing to our Christian brothers and sisters so that we might "encourage one another and build each other up.." helping one another to stay focused, consistent and growing in our faith.

Because of the help he received along the way, Gary was happy to report that, on October 28, 2017, he reached his goal weight of 198 pounds. Encouragement is truly a powerful motivator isn't it? May we remember that as we look for ways in action and in speech to uplift and inspire one another to flourish in our running but, more importantly, in our walk with Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminder of how encouraging words, attitudes and actions can spur people on to reach a milestone or merely make it through a difficult time or day. Help us to have helpful spirits, always joyful, that we might incite others to keep pressing on and keep the faith. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

For our good

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 NIV

As I reflected back on last weekend's 100 mile race and the spiritual and mental strength it took for me to cross the finish line, I was brought to tears with the realization that all of the trials, injuries and heartaches I had experienced leading up to that point, some that I feared would break me, had actually served to make me stronger-something God knew I would need to be to complete the race I had been called to run. I recalled all the times I had cried out, my heart literally breaking, unable to do anything more than lean into Him for the strength to make it through one more mile and one more day. Times that allowed me to experience God’s lovingkindness, his faithfulness and his power within me to press on. And while many of those experiences were nearly unbearable, I am forever grateful for each one because they taught me that I could trust Him even when I didn’t understand his plan.

As most of us can attest, life is not free from hardships, setbacks or suffering, and God never said it would be. But, thankfully, we were given the promise "that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." For the believer, this is great news. It means that God is working in all things and through all circumstances including the good, the bad and the downright ugly trials we will go through to fulfill his (not ours-there’s a big difference) purpose to which we were called. And that will always be to our benefit and always for our good no matter how it appears at the time.

So if you feel you're in the fire today my friend and hard-pressed on all sides, remember the words of Casting Crowns, "When you're on your knees and answers seem so far away, you're not alone... your world's not falling apart, it's falling into place.” And God is working it all for your good.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the promise that everything that we will go through in this life will be used for our good and for your glory. Oh Lord, let that knowledge give us peace as we go through the battles of life only to be made stronger. Help us to look up during these times and to lean into you as you mold us and make us into the people we need to be to fulfill the purpose to which we have been called. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

First reconcile

"Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift." Matthew 5:23, 24

"Crushing" is the word one runner used to describe the news that Saturday’s Gulf Coast Marathon course was .295 miles short of the 26.2 miles needed to be a full marathon. And while the discrepancy might not have mattered to most of the runners, those who had achieved a Boston Marathon qualifying time were quite upset to learn that their hard work was for naught-and that their only chance to run Boston was to run another race and hope to re-qualify. Upon learning of the miscalculation, Race Director Jonathan Dziuba immediately took full responsibility for the error though, and sent an apology letter to all the runners saying, "I am deeply sorry for this series of events...Unfortunately, BAA does not currently allow exceptions for people not running the complete marathon distance at a race even if it is the event producer's fault. For those runners who were able to make your BAA qualifying time, I am deeply saddened by my mistake especially for you."

You know, no matter how hard you and I try to do things right, we will inevitably make mistakes and hurt others in one way or another. But when that happens, the Bible is very clear that you and I are to acknowledge that we've grieved someone else and then resolve to restore that relationship as quickly as possible. You see, broken relationships not only hinder our witness to others (how can we love God if we don't love our brother?) but interfere with our relationship with God. Which is exactly why we are told to leave our sacrifice at the altar and "First go and be reconciled to them” with them meaning those who might have something against us.

So if there's someone you need to be reconciled with, won't you do it today? Because as Dr. Geoffrey Tristram writes, "We cannot be right with God until we are right with our fellow men and women. We cannot hope for forgiveness until we have confessed our sin to God and mended our broken relationships and sought reconciliation with our brothers and sisters."

Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminder that reconciliation is very important in our relationship with you and with others. Help us to recognize when we have hurt someone else, whether we meant to or not, and extend love to that person that our relationship with them might be healed and the relationship with You unhindered. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

The real treasure

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:21

Image result for person buying athletic wear pic

What would you do if you had $40,000 burning a hole in your pocket? Well if you're JP Caudill, a 39-year-old runner from Virginia Beach, you'd spend it on the World Marathon Challenge that starts on January 30, 2018. Amazingly enough, this IT consultant shelled out his whole life savings to sign up for the challenge in pursuit of his dream to run seven marathons on seven continents in seven days. That equates to 183.4 miles over a week and flying over 25,000 miles with a total flight time of 52 hours to do that. I guess you could say from his actions that JP really loves running couldn't you?

The truth is, the way we spend our money and what we do with our time says a lot about what you and I love. In fact, the Bible says that where our "treasure is" there our "heart will be also" meaning that what we "treasure" is what we value the most. And what we value the most is where we place our priorities and what controls us. In other words, the thing that we love most is our god, whether we want to admit it or not, and the thing we will give our time and money to. But you see, it’s only when God is our priority and the thing we love more than anything in this world that we will devote and invest our “treasure” wisely.

So based on what's written in your calendar and on your bank statement, what would you say is most important to you today? If it's not Jesus my friend, your "treasure" and your "heart" are in the wrong place.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminder that where we place our treasure is the greatest indicator of where our love and loyalty lies. If we have put any thing or activity before you Lord, please reveal it to us today that we might realign our priorities and put You first... where You deserve. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Opportunities are everywhere

"Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God." Hebrews 13:16

Dallas Marathon

Chandler Self, 32, won the women's division of the 2017 BMW Dallas Marathon Sunday with an official time of 2:53:57. And if her speed wasn't enough to make you say "wow", the events that led up to it will. You see Chandler began struggling to stay on her feet while nearing the end and might not have made it without some help. That's when 17-year-old Ariana Luterman, who was running for the elite high school relay, spotted her and helped her reach the finish line. Ariana later said, "As soon as we got to the finish line, I pushed her out in front of me so she could cross the tape before I did...More than anything, I think I showed people there are opportunities everywhere. There are opportunities to help everyone everywhere."

You know, Ariana could have easily stolen the spotlight and gone ahead of Chandler but she didn't. This young girl saw an opportunity to help someone else and didn't hesitate to take it. And shouldn't that be our response when we see someone in need too? Of course it is. The Bible tells us so when it says that you and I should never "neglect to do good" when we have the occasion to do so "for such sacrifices are pleasing to God."

So today and everyday, let us do more than help when the occasion presents itself. Let's actively look for chances to bless others and by doing so show the love of Christ. Because as Ariana simply said, "there are opportunities everywhere" and we don't want to miss even one.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminder that there are always people in need and that we, by taking advantage of every opportunity to help, can share Christ with others. Help us to be generous and bold in our actions that they might be pleasing to you. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

To God be the glory-36 Hours of Jack 2017

"Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think." Ephesians 3:20 NLT

Image may contain: 6 people, people smiling, people standing and outdoor

At 6 a.m. Saturday, I was blessed, along with many other runners, to step up to the start line of the 36 Hours of Jack endurance race in Carthage, Mo. Since the event offered many distances, including a 5k, 25k, 15k, 50k, 75k, 100k, 100 mile and 200k, you could be sure that the reason each person participated was as different as the mileage they chose to conquer. As for me, I was led to do the 100 mile race for one reason. And that reason was to glorify God through my actions and pursuits. And that pursuit continued until 6:42 a.m. the next day (24 hours and 40 minutes later) until I, with the help of my friends, crew and many amazing prayer warriors, crossed the finish line to proclaim "All glory to God."

And you know, as hard as this race was (and it got very tough with the nighttime lows dipping down to 23), I never had a doubt that it could be accomplished. You see, the Bible tells us that "God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us" can "accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think." This means, that when Christ dwells inside us, you and I have the power to achieve more than we could ever imagine or comprehend. And when you have the faith to step out and attempt the impossible, great and unimaginable things happen for which you can declare "All glory to God".

So knowing that God can do more in us than we have the capacity to conceive, what will you attempt to do today? What action or pursuit will you use to bring Him glory? Because as Greg Warren writes, "The ultimate goal of the universe is to show the glory of God. It is the reason everything exists, including you."

Heavenly Father, thank you being so worthy of all our praise and honor. May every action and pursuit that we undertake, today and every day,  be done for the sole purpose of bringing you glory. And may you supply everything we need through your "mighty power" that this might be done. All glory to you God. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Thoughts are powerful

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Proverbs 4:23

Image result for helmet of salvation picture

While talking with a dear friend a few weeks ago about my upcoming 100 mile race (that is now happening tomorrow) and what it takes to complete an endurance event of this kind, we discussed the obvious intense physical training that was necessary but agreed that the battle was ultimately either won or lost in the mind. In his words, "The longest and hardest distance you will ever cross is the five-and-a-half inches between your ears." And you know what? It's true. As Henry Ford once said, "If you think you can, or think you can't-you're right."

The psalmist understood this to be true as well when he urged his readers to "above all else, guard your heart.." And why take the precautions to protect the heart and mind more so than anything else? Because the condition of your mind-whether it be pessimistic or optimistic, focused on Christ or focused on your problems or discomfort-determines "everything" that "you do" and everything that you don't do. You see, your mind has the power to motivate you to press on through trials to achieve great victory or to dishearten and discourage you to surrender and accept defeat. Your thoughts are just that powerful.

So no matter what you're facing today, whether it be a tough race, a hopeless situation or just the pressures of the day, remember to watch over your heart and mind with the utmost diligence by guarding what goes into it and what goes out of it. Fill it with the truth and knowledge that comes from the Word and take captive and remove every thought that is contrary to it. That, my friend, is the only way to reach the finish line.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that clearly tells us that the devil is out to seek and destroy us. Help us to remember that our thoughts are many times what satan will use to make us doubt what we can do through You and for You. And then help us to stand firm and fight the good fight knowing that through You, all things are possible. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Live it to the fullest

"“LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered-how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.”" Psalm 39:4,5

Image result for jill jackett photos

Jill Jackett, a beloved teacher, cross country coach and avid runner, was killed by a hit-and-run driver late last week while she was out for her usual morning run in Rochester, New York. She was only 38. Todd Grimes, the athletic director at the school where Jackett worked said, "We have lost so much more than a great coach and teacher. We have lost an amazing person." An opinion shared by many, including Russell Herman, a member of the Bagel Brunch Runners who joined Jill (she was a member) every Saturday for their group long run, "As a runner, she was intensely competitive, but in a quiet way. She’d never admit it, but whenever you ran with her, it was a hard run. So many people are impacted by her death. If anything good comes out of it, it’s that a whole lot of people will carry on her legacy of truly living life to the fullest.”

You know, truly living life to the fullest is something we should all ascribe to do. Wouldn't you agree? David certainly did-which is why he asked God to remind him that his time on earth was short and that his days were numbered saying, "at best, each of us is but a breath." He knew that living each day with the knowledge that it might be his last, or even close to it, would help him to make better choices of how he would spend his time. Think about it... if you knew you only had two months to live, would you live today differently? Would you forgive easier? And love harder? Would you attempt those things you only dream of? And most importantly, would you boldly tell others about Jesus?

The sad truth is, life is short no matter how many days we are given my friend. And since we never know the number of days that will be, we should start living now, making each moment count for something so that we too can leave a "legacy of truly living life to the fullest."

Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminder that life is short. May today be the day that we completely surrender our will to yours that we might live life to the fullest in service to You. Call us out to do great things Lord and equip us to save the lost that we might leave a legacy of faithfulness for others to follow. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

He has compassion

"Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him." Psalm 103:13 NASB

Image result for two women praying pic

Within just a few feet of turning off of our town’s main highway and onto a side street on my early morning run yesterday, I saw a friend pull over on the opposite side of the busy road and motion hurriedly for me to come over. As I looked both ways and then sprinted towards her, she excitedly said, "I'm so glad that I saw you just now. What great timing! I really need you to pray with me." In awe of God's perfect timing, I took her hands in mine. And right there, oblivious to anything around us and the other cars passing by, we prayed over the situation she was on her way to face. Then as we finished, both of us near tears, she thanked me and drove off as I resumed my run. Wow! What a start to the morning.

You know, God is so good like that isn't He? He knows exactly what we need, exactly when we need it. In fact, David, in describing God's great love for us, wrote, "Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear him." And if compassion is defined as a strong feeling of sympathy and sadness for other people’s suffering or bad luck and a desire to help, consider that God is not only sympathetic to our suffering or pain but empathetic to it. In other words, our good Father can show us true compassion because he truly has an ability to understand what we are feeling because He has felt it too.

In the words of Ben Carson, "God cares about every area of our lives, and God wants us to ask for help." So no matter what you may be going through today, take comfort in knowing that you are not alone. God truly cares about you and has a desire to help if you are suffering... just ask Him

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us so much that you would care about every area of our lives from our smallest fears to our deepest hurts. Help us to realize that You not only care that we are suffering but can suffer alongside us because You know what we are going through. May that thought bring us peace as we cry out to You to be compassionate to us. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Ignore the insults

"Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it." 1 Peter 3:9 NLT

Image result for speaking kind words pic

Last Friday People Magazine shared Ultramarathoner Latoya Snell's story of being heckled at this year’s New York City Marathon. At 5 foot 3 inches and 218 pounds, Snell describes herself as a full-figured, powerful and phenomenal woman who uses running to cope with the trials of life. So as she was joyfully focusing on pushing through the last four miles of this famous 26.2 mile race, looking to finish her eighth marathon in four years, she was stunned when a man in the crowd began shouting disparaging comments about her weight. “Shocked and angry, I stopped and retorted expletives and insults. Two other female runners witnessed our confrontation and told me he wasn’t worth it. They were right, of course, but the damage was already done. By that point, I’d lost minutes and much-needed energy to a man who took pride in poking fun at my size.”

You know, regardless of how we look or how well we live, there will always be those people who enjoy putting us down for one reason or another. But when that happens, and you can be sure it will, the Bible reminds us not to "retaliate with insults", but to "instead, pay them back with a blessing." In other words, rather than reacting angrily to put-downs, you and I should pray for the person hurling them. After all, peoples' unkind words usually come from hearts in need of a Savior. And if we "repay evil for evil", they will never be drawn to the Christ they see in us and so desperately need.

So today and every day, may you and I vow to follow the example of Jesus by turning the other cheek when we are insulted and choosing to love others that might never love us back-because, plain and simple, "this is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it."

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that clearly tells us that we are to respond to insults with kind words and to hatred with love. Help us to walk so closely with You that these would be our natural responses to the bitterness we will experience in this world. And by our actions, may we lead others to You. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Real heroes-St Jude Marathon 2017

"We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up." Romans 15:1,2

Image result for st jude marathon volunteers pic

This past Saturday, I was blessed to be one of the 37 runners who made up the official pace team of the 16th annual St. Jude Marathon. And of the 25,000 other runners that we shared the course with, a large number were recognized as St. Jude Heroes-those people who, in addition to running the race, fundraised for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Considering that a hero is defined as a person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities, those runners and their supporters who helped raise $10.3 million to support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude this year are most definitely heroes. Wouldn't you agree?

And if a hero is someone known for their noble or righteous qualities, the apostle Paul adds that a Christian hero should also be known for their strength and willingness to, above pleasing themselves, "bear with the failings of the weak"-looking to please or help their "neighbors for their good, to build them up." In other words, being a hero means taking action. It means being a helper, a supporter and a friend. It means loving others enough to use those things God has given you like money, time or talent to give back to someone else. Being a hero means being like Christ in a world in desperate need of Him.

So if you think you have nothing to offer, no great strengths to speak of, consider this...it took 4,000 volunteers to put this race on.  From the people who worked the water stations and the police who directed traffic to the men and women who placed medals around our necks and served us hot food at the finish line, there were heroes everywhere. And you too can be a hero to someone today. You don't even need a cape.

Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus to be the ultimate example of what it means to be a hero. He always put others first and never failed to help someone in need. May we follow that example in a world that truly needs heroes that others might come to know You because of it. And Lord, I pray that more heroes will step up to help until cancer is permanently cured. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. It is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since the hospital opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent, and we won't stop until no child dies from cancer. St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. Defying the odds

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for." Hebrews 11:1,2

"Skyline High runner defying the odds six months after horrific crash." Those were yesterday's East Idaho News' headlines describing Nick Kirby's return to running after the May 22 car crash that left two of his friends dead and changed his life forever. After the accident, which occurred on their school lunch break, Nick spent three weeks in a medically induced coma before going home six weeks later with a steel rod in his leg. Amazingly though, Nick was well enough to run in the Tiger Grizz cross country meet in September and has been running ever since. The metal rod will be removed from his leg next Spring and Nick will continue to run despite the hardships that come his way.

When it comes to defying the odds, Hebrews 11, commonly referred to as the Faith Hall of Fame, lists many of the saints of the Bible who accomplished things that looked impossible. And how did they do it? By faith. By faith, Noah built the ark and escaped the flood. By faith, Abraham obeyed and went to a foreign land and become the father of many nations. By faith, the walls of Jericho fell. And by faith, the people passed through the Red Sea and did not drown. So what is this faith "the ancients were commended for" that allowed them to defy the odds? It was the "confidence" or trust they had in God, that He would do what he said even though they could not see those promises materializing yet. This "assurance" is what allowed them to act bravely, completely trusting that God would be faithful to deliver them.

Perhaps you're in a situation today where you feel the odds are stacked against you? If that's the case my friend, remember that the same God in whom the saints trusted is the same God that you and I can trust today-the very same God that has been "defying the odds" since before He spoke the world into being. And with Him, all things are possible.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that gives us so much hope by telling us who you are and how faithful you are. Thank you for the countless stories of those saints that were able to do the impossible in the face of insurmountable odds because they placed their trust in you. May we have that same faith today that we too might do extraordinary things in your Name. It’s in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Sort of a follower

"And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:27

On November 12, runners of all ages paid $20 to participate in the first-ever "New York Sorta Marathon." And it was sort of a marathon because it came with everything you'd expect from a 26.2 mile race-a fancy start and finish line, medical support, bibs, medals, people holding up inspirational signs, space blankets, bananas and gatorade-except it was only .2 mile long... 26 miles short of a real marathon distance. James Coker, the third-place finisher, jokingly said that sharing his achievement with friends via social media made the effort he put into the race worth it. Describing that effort and the training it took to complete this monumental feat, Coker said, "I try to run once a month. It’s important to have a regular regimen —100, 200, 300 feet at a time. Baby steps, you can’t just jump right in with serious distance racing.”

And as funny as this is, it's proof that, while many people would love say they have completed a marathon, most people won't ever do it because it’s just too hard. Unfortunately, the same can be said of many self-professed Christians. They want to be known as followers of Christ but only "sort of" follow because being sold out is just too hard. You see, when Jesus said, "whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple," he was warning the crowd (and us) that following him would not be easy. It would require total, complete and absolute devotion and submission to Him-maybe even to the point of death.

So it's no wonder that Jesus would urge us to consider the cost of being a disciple before making a commitment is it? Because we can't just "sort of " follow Christ, we are either all in or all out. Can you say that you are all in and completely sold out to Jesus today?

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us so much that you would promise to be with us in this life if we would submit our lives to you. And although you clearly warn us that it won't be easy to be your disciple, you do guarantee that it will be worth it. May we be totally sold out to you Lord no matter how hard it is or may ever become. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!

Hate evil

"Let those who love the LORD hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked." Psalm 97:10

Image result for winter runner pic

Like many runners (including me), Lori Adams suffers from Raynaud's Syndrome, a condition in which the small blood vessels constrict and reduce blood flow to the extremities. Because of this, she says, she has always hated running in the winter. "When it’s cold, my fingers and toes go numb and become a ghostly shade of white then blue, until the circulation returns." Thankfully, she said, all that changed when she found the right mittens a few years ago-and no longer has a feeling of hatred towards venturing out in the coldest season of the year.

And you know, while the proper clothing can certainly help us to overcome our "hate" of being out in the elements, there's one thing the Bible tells us that we should never stop hating-and that's evil, or anything that contradicts the holy nature of God and his Word, no matter how minor the offense may seem or how socially acceptable it may have become. You see, if you and I truly "love the Lord", we will love what He loves and despise what He despises, meaning we will "hate evil" in any and every form. And this emotion of “hate” is not merely disliking those things that God has declared as morally wrong, but detesting them to the point of finding them intolerable.

So what would you say your attitude is toward sin today? Would you say you believe some things that used to be considered wrong are okay now because times have changed? Well let me remind you my friend, while the world may have changed, God's commandments have not. So may we recognize and "hate evil" in any form, that we might shine brightly in a dark world and lead others to Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that clearly tells us what is right and wrong. May we cling closely to those tenets that we might not compromise our stance on sin in any way. Though we might be called intolerant, bigoted and judgmental by the world, may we continue to love others without wavering from the Word. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Change of direction

"After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them." Acts 16:10

Image result for jake sitler pic

Jake Sitler, a 28-year-old athlete from York County, Pa., says he went from being on the track team at Shippensburg University to being a professional cyclist after he sustained an injury to his hip that left him unable to run. "I wasn't quite ready to accept that I was injured...I kept thinking `I can still come back and run the final end of our season`and my coach just sat me down and said, hey man, we did everything we could. He was like...'you know...it's just time to move onto the next stage of your life. So I started mountain biking." And because of his decision to “move on” in a new direction, Sitler now holds a professional contract for a different style of cycling and spends his days training for major events (like the Olympics).

You know, whether we like it or not, things will happen to us in life that will uproot our plans and cause us to change direction. The apostle Paul experienced that when he and his companions were kept by the Holy Spirit from visiting Asia and then Bithynia (v.6-9). And while they may have wondered why their plans had been thwarted twice, God soon revealed the direction He would have them take instead. And so they "got ready at once to leave for Macedonia.. to preach the gospel to them." And Paul’s decision to heed the call, according to some historians, was credited with the spread of Christianity into Europe and the Western world.

You know, when God is working to lead us in a new direction, He will use many ways to get our attention. It may be through the promptings of a friend, the voice of the Holy Spirit or a disruption in our lives. But when this happens, you can be sure of one thing... what God is leading you to will always be better than anything you ever left behind.

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us so much that you would care to guide us in the direction that is best for our lives. Help us to trust your plan especially when we don't understand it and to follow you no matter how it looks. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Set a goal

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen." 2 Peter 3:18

Although Orville Rogers of Dallas, TX won't officially turn 100 until Tuesday, his birthday celebration started early Saturday morning when, hours before the “official” party was scheduled to begin, he and four generations of his family combined to run 100 miles-with Rogers running the last mile. You see, Orville has been a runner for a very long time (with records and awards to prove it) and said that, with running and with life, it's very important to set goals and keep growing. Which is why, after completing his lifetime goal of turning 100 Tuesday, he will work towards his next one-competing in the National Indoor Track Meet in March saying,"I can still run 100-meters in 33 seconds. I've been greatly blessed and I'm very grateful."

If goal setting is, by definition, deciding what we want to accomplish and then devising a plan to achieve it, we would all do well to continue setting goals throughout our lifetime, wouldn't we? After all, just because we get older doesn't mean we should stop growing right? Peter knew this was true, especially in our spiritual lives if we were to be able to continue to refute false teachers and stand for the truth. Which is why he urged believers to make it their ambition to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." And he knew that doing this-getting to know God and his Word better-would be a lifetime process where there would always be room to grow and mature in the faith, no matter how long a person had been a follower.

So would you say that growing closer to the Lord is a goal you have been working towards every day for a while? Or a goal that you need to set? Thankfully, if you said yes to the latter, today can be the day you devise a plan to achieve that closeness and growth through prayer and Bible study. You'll be so glad that you did.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the Bible that allows us to draw closer to you. As believers, may our greatest desire to be to seek you every day within It's pages and through daily prayer time. Help us to devise a plan to be deliberate and consistent in our goal of growing in the grace and knowledge of You that we might stand for Truth in a world that will always challenge our faith. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

While many of us will be working to burn off those Thanksgiving meal calories by going for a run today or hitting the black Friday sales in search of the best deals on active wear, Ultra-runner Lisa Smith-Batchen will be embarking on a 300-mile journey to run from her home in Jackson Hole, WY, to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City-hoping to arrive on November 28, the day she lost her mother to cancer last year. She said, “This journey is about all of us coming together in the name of love... Each mile will be dedicated to a loved one; each mile will be full of honor, dignity, grace and glory. This is my way. Crazy as it may seem to you, it is my way.”

And you know, when it comes to pursuing any goal, the Bible tells us that "our way", or the reason we do it, should be because of love. You see, people can be motivated by many things when they set goals-fame, pride and money, just to name a few. But, as believers, you and I are to "Do everything in love." That means every goal that we set for ourselves and everything that we do for others should be motivated either by our love for Jesus Christ and bringing Him glory or our love for people.

So today, what would you say motivates you? If it's not love, then it's all in vain my friend. Because when it comes down to it, God is more interested in why we do what we do than what we do-no matter how epic the feat was.

Heavenly Father, thank you sending your Son to be the perfect example of what it means to do everything in love. Help us to love You and others in the same way Jesus did and to pursue only those goals that will bring You glory. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!

Always thankful

"always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." Ephesians 5:20

While many runners will begin their holiday morning by competing in local turkey trots, one man from California, Mike Dosik, will be doing it with a huge smile on his face. You see, last year Mike, a 49-year-old married father of two, suffered a near fatal heart attack and collapsed right before the finish line of San Francisco's Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot. Which is why he is especially grateful to be participating this year saying, "It’s been a journey for me — mentally and physically — to recover from what happened. It was not something I would have ever expected. But I live with a lot more gratitude and a lot more perspective than I did before.”

You know, living our lives in appreciation for each day is something we all should be doing since there are obviously no guarantees that we will see tomorrow. So while it is still today, and the official day to express our thankfulness, let us make a vow to live with a deeper and different perspective on life-approaching each new day with more gratitude and indebtedness to our Creator for our many undeserved blessings-acknowledging that every new sunrise is a gift and "always giving thanks to God the Father for everything."

And so this holiday season, won’t you take the time to count your blessings? And then take the time to really thank the Lord for each one of them? I think you’ll find, by doing so, that you have even more reasons to celebrate Thanksgiving than you ever realized.

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us, providing for us and for giving us so many things that we don't deserve. Help us to remember that EVERY good thing that we have, both big and small, comes from you... our homes, our health, the food on our table, the people around it and the air in our lungs. Help us to be more grateful in every area of our lives Lord and to always thank you the many blessings we have. Blessings that, if we're honest, are too many to count. It's in your precious name we pray Jesus. Amen.

Happy Running!!!
